Your Questions About Marketing Strategy Consulting

Richard asks…
What do you do with seven years of experience in marketing?
….My ultimate goal is to transition from the “cost” side of business to the “revenue” side. Do I have to get my MBA to move into strategy consulting?
answers:
If I were you, I would be working as a consultant.
Get your rolodex (I’m old school paper, but till use technology) in order and know who you can rely on for info and info gathering.
I would highly recommend that you work towards that MBA.

Carol asks…
I did all the work… is it fair?
I’m in a senior level entrepreneur class at a university and the class was placed into groups of three and we had to “consult” a new business owner about their marketing strategies and write up a consulting report. We met a couple of times and every-time we met all they (the two other people in my group) did was complain about how they didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know what to do either. We couldn’t get ahold of our client so we were forced to make everything up, except the marketing strategy.. that was the point of the whole report. So instead of listening to them whine and moan I started writing the paper. And I wrote the whole thing except the executive summary. I asked them to write it and the paper is due today and still no summary… is it fair that all of our names are on that paper? What do you think I should do? I wanted to just turn it in a be done with it but everyone else who has seen me writing it says that I should tell our professor. But I really don’t see the point in that.
Our professor told us to make up details about the business and client. It wasn’t our choice.
answers:
Personally, I would pull your professor aside, whether it be before class or after, and explain to him that you did the work. When you turn the paper in, only have your name on it. They other two will have to cope since they didn’t do the work.
That’s how it was for me in almost all of my classes; I did the work and the others got credit until I stopped putting their names on the papers and they started failing. They got the picture and started putting in some effort towards the papers.
Good luck! Hopefully YOU get the good grade and the other two learn a lesson.

Have you considered combining your love for travel and experimenting with a career change by doing a short-term internship abroad? You would be able to check off a few of those points like flexibility, new ideas, helping people, excitement, unique experiences, new people, etc. You can do work in marketing, social work, travel, event management, advertising, etc. Check out the website Leave UR Mark which helps people in your age range (recent gradates) find something meaningful to do abroad for 1 to 3 months so you can figure out your passions, what drives you, and what you’re good at. I personally did an internship abroad last year in Journalism where I got to write restaurant reviews, travel articles, interview musicians and artists, and experience another culture. Your Questions About What Is Marketing Strategies Of A Product

Jenny asks…
How many ladies buy Avon products?
I am currently a daycare worker interested in making a second income. I’ve read many success stories of selling Avon and was wondering how many ladies (or men) actually buy’s Avon products? Also, if you are an Avon seller, what marketing strategies do you have that will be helpful for a newcomer in the marketing business? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks and have a wonderful day!
answers:
I just spent over a hundred dollars on avon. My friends and family buy it too.

Steven asks…
principles of marketing?
can someone help me get this one started?
Explain why elasticity of demand is such an important concept to marketers who sell a “commodity” product. What pricing strategies would you recommend under these circumstances? Justify your recommendations.
answers:
A product which is termed as a ‘commodity’ is obviously a product which has very low differentiation, in other words it is not unique. In such situations price elasticity, the degree to which demand varies based on movements in price is critical. As the product is not unique, buyers will naturally gravitate to a product which is cheaper.
Strategies that could be used at this stage, could be a Value for Money Strategy, ensuring that buyers pricing is commensurate with buyers perception of value. Other pricing strategies, include lowest cost pricing, every day low pricing or parity pricing strategies.

George asks…
what does everyone think about the new TaB energy drink?
TaB energy is marketed as “Fuel to be Fabulous” but does that really appeal to anyone? I have to write a brand strategy for a class and I am just trying to get a sense of how people feel about the product. How would you market TaB energy?
answers:
I would market Tab as a crash fit for a king. I ran out of my Advanced Cell Therapy. ACT lasts all day long. My friend gave me one of her Tabs and 2 hours to the minute, I crashed and I crashed hard. It would have been better if I wouldn’t have taken it in the first place.
If I can be of further assistance, let me know.

Why drugs are variably priced?
Why drugs are variably priced ? For instance, Glimepiride -1 mg is priced at around INR !.50 for a Euglim tab and INR 3.50 for a Glypride tab and INR 10.00 for a multinational brand ? Is it due to holding of patent rights, marketing strategy etc.,or due to DIFFERENCE in PRODUCT QUALITY ? What is the role of quality here ?
And I would like to know a few economical and good quality Glimepiride-1 mg tabs available in India.
answers:
Buy on line . Go to this website :http://www.sundrugstore.com/diabetic-amaryl-c-27_67.html
This is generic Amaryl.
I would buy the 2 mg. Tablets and split in Half. They are about 57 cents in US money.
Amaryl 2mg x 120 pills $138.00 Divided by 2 = 57.5 US cents.
Thats the best I can find. Generic drugs are as good as Brand name.
If it’s fake , it could also be a brand name. But most are not. Even drugstores in America sell fake drugs. One come to mind about a cancer patient taking a very expensive drug was sold fake pills. But the store did get caught . The patient died.
You take care. Wish I was in India I would give you a couple of hundred. I bought a bunch of real Amaryl , but through diet and exercise I don’t take them anymore. Was getting Hypo’s. Now just on Metformin.
Take care

Chris asks…
Technology is often founded on Psychology, what effects has Technology had on human Psychology?
Advertiseing and marketing strategies are based on what inclines people to motivate toword product … high tech toys have become a part of everyday life … in turn, there must be conscenquences of this manipulation of human behavior. In light of true needs for
human survival, what is the human condition?
answers:
I think that technology has had a negative affect on psychology for three reasons. First, technology has desensitized us in the compassion department. Due to technology we are bombarded with so much tragedy and violence we are overwhelmed. Secondly, technology has lowered our moral standard. Because we are exposed to every culture from every corner of the earth we can pick and choose what we accept as norm, there is no balance. We accept all of the easy, feel good type stuff and none of the accountability and work type stuff. Finally, I think technology, specifically video games and tv have caused our children to have shorter attention spans there by hindering their learning. For example, kids used to have no problem making up games out of nothing, today kids are force fed games with all the players and rules, no room for imagination. Some kids can’t even be still long enough to read a short story. These are 3 bad things i think we get from tech. Ofcourse there are good things too, especiallly in the medical field. It is a trade off.

Mary asks…
I am new to investing. Any ideas for which sector I should invest in?
I want to invest this October in some stocks. I would like to long some stocks in the market since it would be a rather simple strategy. I do not know which sector I should choose. I also don’t have any idea about which stocks to pick. I think the energy sector would be a good idea. By the way, would you know any where in which to have a program pick stocks for me based on my predetermined criteria? For example, stocks that pay a dividend in the energy sector. Here is another idea, how would I predict mergers and acquisitions? Thanks a lot for your helpful ideas and replies. If you have any other ideas or suggestions please let me know, Thank You
answers:
Pharmaceuticals and energy sectors are going to rise in the next decade, get into those.
Use thinkorswim trading program (its free), and use their marketscan program, it lets you search through stocks based on different criteria such as divined, sector, volatility, p/e ratio, etc. It is extremely useful.

John asks…
Stocks about to undergo reverse stock splits?
I am playing a stock market game for my economics class with $100,000 in pretend money. I really want to win and I am wondering about a new strategy I have come across. Is it a good idea to buy stocks about to undergo reverse stock splits? For example, I am thinking of buying JAVA because it is about to have a 1 for 4 reverse stock split. I read that that will make it go from $5 to about $20. If only the stock price increase is accounted for and not the share decrease (e.g. My shares will stay the same while the price increases), doesn’t that seem like a logical thing to do? If so, do you know of any other stocks about to have reverse stock splits? Thanks!
My teacher would not make me decrease my amount of shares though. Like if I buy 10,000 shares at $5 then it goes up to $20 wouldn’t I make $100k? My teacher only looks at the stock price and not the fact that there has been a reverse stock split. So he wouldn’t make my 10,000 shares reduce to 2,500. I hope that makes sense. We’re not playing like the real world.
answers:
Are you saying the game you’re participating in is flawed and won’t account for the decreased shares quantity when the price goes up? If so, sweet! (Too bad we can’t make money like that in real life.)
Here’s a link to find reverse stock splits in Yahoo Finance:

Are there any Forex automated robots that make profit?
I have tried many automatic robots and none of them did make any profit, only losses.
How can robot know which way the market is going to move???
Traders, please do not be naive and save your money.
All robot developers claim that their robot is the best in the world and that it made a lot of money for them. Oh yes the robot developers made a lot of money by selling the useless robots. They are just a rip-of.
Example is Forexrobottrader from Steinitz – do not buy it, you will achieve only total losses, it is just a rip-of.
Brokers are the same rip-of.
Do not deal with IGindex or IGmarkets. They trade against you and set their own rules. If you create your own strategy and you start making money they will do everything possible and make sure that you loose. They told us strait in our face that they do not want us to win.
They are just a bunch of bloodsuckers.
Wake up.
Save your money.
You have more chances of winning Lotto than by trading.
Take my advice.
You have been warned.
Ex trader
answers:
Any so-called “robot” for trading stocks or, in this case, foreign exchange (forex) have to be scams. Think about it: If you invented such a “robot,” would you sell it? No, you wouldn’t. You would trade it and become a billionaire, because if it really did work and thousands of people started using it, it would no longer work!
Also, the smartest, Ivy League educated quantitative analysts on Wall Street are paid millions of dollars to develop such systems. Sometimes they will come across one that works for a while, but eventually they all collapse. Hence the implosion in recent years of many hedge funds.

Your Questions About Advertising Marketing Strategy Business

Donna asks…
do you need a business license to operate a business from home?
I’ve started a marketing company from home. We design websites, brochures, sell marketing strategies, and write advertising copy and most of our business is done on the net, some phone calls. Do we need to have a city business license, or just a ficticious name to do business under the name and have a bank account. any ideas would be cool, not looking for legal advice just what is the norm?
answers:
Fictitious name/business name registration would suffice. Businesses, even the smallest home-based operations, are required to register with either their city or county. Check with your city or county office the procedures in filing for business registration.
Licenses are for specific businesses (e.g. Restaurant, daycare) and marketing businesses are not often asked to apply for licenses. But to be sure, contact your county and ask for the requirements. On the Web, you can start by going to your Secretary of State website, which often have the information on how to start a business in your area.
Generally, businesses need an Employer Identification Number (EIN) or federal tax identification number. The EIN is used to identify a business entity such as a corporation, LLC, or partnership. Sole proprietorships that need to pay federal excise of employment taxes are required to get an EIN. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) web site at http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=98350,00.html contains all the information you need about EIN and how to apply for an EIN electronically.
A business that sells any tangible item is required to get a sales and use tax license. Sales and use tax that applies to the retail purchase, retail site, rental, storage, use or consumption of tangible personal property and certain services vary between states. Check with your state Comptroller office for the requirements and procedures in getting a sales tax number.
Another thing to consider is zoning permit, especially for home-based business. This is especially important if clients will be going to your home. While many home based entrepreneurs get away with not having to file zoning permits, the litmus test is often the neighbors. If a neighbor complains, then that’s when the zoning board typically steps in.

I am establishing a new advertising agency really soon. Do you have a ear-catching name in mind?
Yes, I am openning a new advertising agency focusing in advertising placement and marketing strategy in retail business and shopping malls. I am seeking a great name which is unique, ear-catching, meaningful and easy to remember with my clients.
Would really appreciate if you could share with me your idea for the name. Thanks!
PS. Would be good if you can also explain your reason for choosing the name and the tagline you can propose too.
Few names in my list are..
1. Dreambox
2. Miracle
3. Mirror
4. Ad-Ventures
5. SuperAd!
answers:
Personally, I think you should go with your name and the name of your partners if you have any. Don’t go with something gimmicky. It doesn’t sound professional.
Think about the top agencies and the names they have – Young & Rubicam. McCann Erickson. They didn’t go with something goofy.
Very, very few shops do well with the catchy name thing. Modernista! Is one of those exceptions.

We reflect your business to the world!
Your growth reflects on us!
Your growth is a reflection of our success!
It’s a little gimmicky for an ad agency, though. I believe you should use a name that clearly conveys your business. It’s hard enough to build up clients, don’t make it any harder.
I like the Ad-Ventures and use a tag line that tells what kind of advertising you will do. Best of luck!!

Linda asks…
Business Marketing Question?
I am currently setting up my business can I ask a few stupid questions?
1)What do I call my position in the company? I am working for myself.
2) I have a database of potential customers, and would like some ideas on how to advertise to them…I have brochures and a website – but I cannot ring these companies (for reason I won’t go into).Are there any other marketing strategies I can use?
The database is my own…creation used by myself, that at the present time – only lists potential customer addresses’….and orgs names.
I have the telephone numbers for these orgs, but they are essentially Helpline no’s, and so out of my own ethics should never really be used to market things down.
answers:
Well the position depends on your role within the company. Managing Director is the boss of the whole company, who has an active role, you could be the Chair Person of the company if you have a board of directors doing things for you. You could just simply call yourself the Owner or Proprietor or Chief Executive.
Make sure your business is listed in the Yellow pages and Yell.com with your website attached, also Thomson local and other directories. Most people will simply do a search to find a company. You can pay for slots on search engines, can be very expensive though, for example a company will pay Google a set amount to be the first name on a search for their keywords.
Send out your brochure but try to find out a specific person to address it too so that it will get looked at. I used to be a PA and usually if the post didn’t have a name on it would come to me and then I’d throw it in a file and forget about it, but if it had gone to the correct dept then they would look at it and remember the company. You can get directories on the Internet or just phone the receptionist and ask who is in charge of such a such dept. You’re not doing any telesales, you’re just asking a question. No harm in that.
Good look.

Your Questions About Marketing Consultants Inc

Jenny asks…
HELP! Please
Marketing Question?
3.You have just been hired as a Marketing Consultant for Prentice-Hall Inc. They are publishers of educational materials. The president and Board of Directors of the company are seeking your advice as to the problems they are experiencing in their marketing channels. Their concerns include the growing dissatisfaction among their customers because of escalating price of school textbooks; the fear that an international competitor might enter the USA market to supply cheaper textbook materials; and a sense in the company that they ARE NOT using technology well enough to create a more competitive company. What are going to be your marketing recommendations to the President and Board of Directors? (Use at least one chart/graph to illustrate your analysis or understanding of the situation; and at least one chart/graph to illustrate your solution or approach to situation).
No need for the charts.
answers:
You make the books available online. Students pre-pay and use a password to enter the site and read the text. Your publishing costs are reduced.

Donna asks…
Do I need to establish a legal identity for my business if I am self-employed?
I am an independent marketing consultant. What do I have to do to legitimize my income? llc… sole proprietorship…..inc? I am self employed with no employees.
answers:
LLC is probably your best bet. You will be working for the company, a legal entity, which will protect you from individual liability. You will also be taxed at the lower individual rate rather than a higher corporate rate, which would be the case if you formed a traditional corporation.

Carol asks…
PLEASE HELPPPP ! math derivatives !!?
You have been hired as a marketing consultant to Big Book Publishing, Inc., and you have been approached to determine the best selling price for the hit calculus text by Whiner and Istanbul entitled Fun with Derivatives. You decide to make life easy and assume that the demand equation for Fun with Derivatives has the linear form q = mp + b, where p is the price per book, q is the demand in annual sales, and m and b are certain constants you’ll have to figure out.
Your market studies reveal the following sales figures: when the price is set at $55.00 per book, the sales amount to 10,000 per year; when the price is set at $80.00 per book, the sales drop to 1,000 per year. Use these data to calculate the demand equation.
q=??
and then
b) Now estimate the unit price that maximizes annual revenue.
and then
Predict what Big Book Publishing, Inc.’s annual revenue will be at that price.
answers:
Find “m” & “b” by putting the given info. Into the assumed demand eq.;
10000 = 55m + b
1000 = 80m + b
Subtract eqs. To elliminate “b” and solve for “m”;
9000 = – 25m
m = – 360
Put this back into either eq. To then get “b”;
10000 = – (360)(55) + b
b = 29800
The demand eq is then;
q = – (360)p + 29800
The revenue “R” is the demand x price;
R = qp = – (360)p^2 + (29800)p
find “p” that maximizes “R” from dR/dp = 0
dR/dp = 0 = – (720)p + 29800
p = $41.39
Revenue at that price is then;
R = – (360)(41.39)^2 + (29800)(41.39)
= $616,694

Maria asks…
Struggling on: Elasticity problem for Calculus! Please help me!!!!?
You have been hired as a marketing consultant to Big Book Publishing, Inc., and you have been approached to determine the best selling price for the hit calculus text by Whiner and Istanbul entitled Fun with Derivatives. You decide to make life easy and assume that the demand equation for Fun with Derivatives has the linear form q = mp + b, where p is the price per book, q is the demand in annual sales, and m and b are certain constants you’ll have to figure out.
(a) Your market studies reveal the following sales figures: when the price is set at $51.00 per book, the sales amount to 10,000 per year; when the price is set at $75.00 per book, the sales drop to 1,000 per year. Use these data to calculate the demand equation.
q =
(b) Now estimate the unit price that maximizes annual revenue.
$
Predict what Big Book Publishing, Inc.’s annual revenue will be at that price.
$
answers:
Really ?
Ok, you have two values for q and corresponding p. So write down the two equations and
solve for m and b. Standard simultaneous linear equations. Even simpler m is the slope of
the demand curve (straight line) so m = rise/run = -9000/24 = -375. Just plug in and solve for
b. Verify that these numbers give you the two points required.
Ok maximise revenue?
Revenue is q*p = m*p^2 + b*p an upside down parabola! So we want to locate the
top of it. This is where the slope is zero (i.e horizontal). So differentiate with respect
to p!! And set equal to zero.
2mp + b = 0.
Solve for p, the unit price.
Finally compute revenue ( a bit more than $500k).
I’m not giving exact answers – you do need to do some work yourself.

Rules waived to add security along 220 miles of AZ border
By Brady McCombs and Howard Fischer
Arizona Daily Star Capitol Media Services
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 04.02.2008
advertisementThe Department of Homeland Security laid claim Tuesday to at least 220 of the 350 miles of U.S.-Mexican border in Arizona to build fences, roads and towers without having to comply with environmental regulations.
A congressionally mandated deadline to have 670 miles of fences, barriers, roads and lighting along the U.S.-Mexico border in place by the end of the year drove Secretary Michael Chertoff to invoke the waiver. To date, the agency has completed 309 miles of projects, leaving it with 361 miles to complete in nine months.
What Tuesday’s order does, Chertoff said, is ensure that the rest of what is necessary can be built without having to complete full-blown environmental-impact statements — and without fearing that one or more sections will become tied up in court.
The announcement, however, was greeted by disdain from local environmental-protection groups and a pair of Arizona legislators.
“I think every American should be up in arms that the federal government is waiving these laws,” said Sean Sullivan, co-chairman of the Sierra Club Rincon Group, which covers Southeastern Arizona. “They are just going to bulldoze ahead in order to get all the projects they had lined up completed.”
The waiver encompasses nearly two-thirds of Arizona’s international border, including swaths of land from as far west as Yuma to near the Arizona-New Mexico state line. Some of the larger expanses revealed by Homeland Security include:
● More than 60 miles stretching from about seven miles east of Sasabe to south of Fort Huachuca in Cochise County.
● More than 55 miles on the Tohono O’odham Reservation, from just east of the village of Ali Ak Chin to near Sasabe.
● More than 50 miles across the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge west of Lukeville.
● More than 20 miles from east of Douglas to near the Arizona-New Mexico state line.
In total, Homeland Security identified 13 areas in Arizona. The detailed plans — or what’s already under construction or has been completed — for each of the areas weren’t available Tuesday. None is a new project, said Amy Kudwa, Homeland Security spokeswoman.
“We are simply moving forward with their expeditious construction,” Kudwa said.
The projects will fall under the general category of “pedestrian and vehicle fence construction, towers, sensors, cameras, detection equipment and roads in the vicinity of the border,” Homeland Security said.
It’s the fourth time Chertoff has used the waiver, created in the 2005 Real ID Act to waive compliance with federal regulations for all border projects. He invoked the waiver on the previous three occasions for individual projects: in October 2007 for construction of two miles of fencing in the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area in Southeastern Arizona; in January 2007 on the Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range in Southwestern Arizona; and in 2005 in San Diego.
Each use has elicited harsh criticism from environmentalists and critics who say no one person should have such overreaching power.
Chertoff’s use of that 2005 waiver authority “has created a lawless border,” said Matt Clark, Southwest representative of Defenders of Wildlife.
The waiver continues a pattern of neglecting important environmental, health and safety laws to build an ineffective and environmentally damaging border wall, Clark said.
“That arbitrary deadline has resulted in lawlessness along the border and a disregard for environmental health and safety laws,” he said.
In a statement, U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., called the use of the waiver “outrageous,” saying neither her office nor local or state elected officials were consulted.
“This is unacceptable,” Giffords said. “A federal government construction project of this magnitude will impact significantly on local residents, communities and the environment. Those of us who live on the border and represent border communities deserve a seat at the table.”
U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., called such a broad and poorly conceived waiver lazy.
“Secretary Chertoff is abusing the authority granted him by the Congress with this ham-handed waiver,” Grijalva said in a statement. “With the stroke of his pen, he overturns 36 laws — some of which have been protecting our resources and our health for more than a century — in an area stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean.”
In a prepared statement Tuesday, Chertoff said his actions are justified.
“The flow of illegal traffic through the border region imperils our ability to fight terrorism by stopping the illegal entry of terrorists, and exposes our border communities and the rest of the United States to the ill effects of drug smuggling, human smuggling and gang activity,” he said. “Illegal border traffic has also caused severe and profound impacts to the environment.”
Invoking the waiver will prevent legal wrangling that could delay projects, he said. That’s exactly what happened last year when two environmental groups sought to halt construction of fences and vehicle barriers along the southern edge of the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area. Challengers said federal officials did not properly consider ways to minimize the impact of the new construction.
Chertoff eventually invoked the waiver, and construction continued.
Chertoff denied that environmental concerns are being ignored. He said that there is at least a “draft environmental assessment or environmental impact statement” for all of the miles where his agency is erecting new pedestrian fencing. And he said most of the other projects — aside from fences to keep pedestrians out — also will have those kinds of assessments.

Your Questions About Marketing Consultants New York

David asks…
Self employed in New York and spending time in Ireland…. Can I have Irish clients?
Hello- I’m a self-employed marketing consultant based in New York and I’m going to be spending months at a time in Ireland. Can I obtain Irish clients? What are the implications? Would they have to pay to my New York business address? Would they be able to pay me in euros? Could I then send checks in euros to my business account in the US? Any insight would be extremely helpful. I’ve never had international clients before! Thanks!
answers:
Sure you can obtain Irish clients (or from anywhere in the world, actually). They could pay you in a variety of ways, but the easiest, safest, cheapest, is to ask that they remit payment via Wire Transfer to your US bank account. This is done easily at any bank and the money is received within 24 hours (usually within an hour).
Most European businesses are used to paying this way so it’s not onerous or strange for them to hear that. Visit your local bank before your trip and they’ll give you a form you can give your clients with the correct routing number and details so the money gets to your account promptly.
In summary, easiest way is to ask your clients to do a Wire Transfer (it costs you nothing, you’re already setup with your regular checking account and money is securely received usually in minutes).
Good Irish Luck!

I want to live and work in New York, How do I do this where do I go?
I live in South Africa, I have a degree in Psychology and communications, I am a white 26 year old male. My experience ranges from being a sales agent for Reebok, doing GIS Mapping and for the last year and a half I have been a recruitment consultant and account manager in Johannesburg. I would like to pursue marketing. How do I legally pursue a career in New York? I really need to know everything from getting a VISA to being employed, I’m looking for a better life not an easier one as hard work does not scare me. I do however want something that will lead to a prosperous career.

Ruth asks…
Where should I move to? San Diego, Boston, New York Metro Area?
Okay… I really need some help, hopefully someone has some good advice for me
I am 22 year old female from Pittsburgh, PA and looking to relocate to another city, alone. I have lived here all my life and feel the city has little to offer a young single person. I have seen it all, done it all and know too many people when I go out. This is a small city, after all. I am bored, pretty much. I’ve wanted to move my whole life and start a new life in another place. I am in the Apartment Leasing business, so I would be pursuing a career as a Leasing Consultant for a Management Company wherever I go, which is not too hard to find a job doing pretty much anywhere, so that is not a huge concern of mine.
What I am looking for in a city…
1. Fun Nightlife ( Clubs, Bars, Lots of Singles, etc. )
2. Low / Lower crime rate (Nothing Too Dangerous)
3. Lots to do!
4. Culture
5. Good Job Market
My three top prospects are Boston, MA, San Diego, CA, or the outskirts of New York City such as Hoboken, NJ… I have been to Boston and New York City but have never been to San Diego. Please give me as much input as you can, I appreciate it ! Thank you!
answers:
I moved to San Diego from NY years ago and never regretted it once. Best decision of my life. San Diego is one of the nicest cities in the country. San Diego is nicer, cleaner, smaller, less congested than L.A. But L.A. Is just short trip up the freeway.

Your Questions About Marketing Consultants For Small Business

answers:

Steven asks…
How much do marketing consultants charge for hands-on marketing services (web design, logo creation, etc.)?
I am considering starting a small-business marketing and public relations consultation service that will assist clients with evaluating their business‘ focus and needs, including hands-on logo design, web site design, print/online advertising, and other marketing materials.
Can anyone steer me in the direction as to where I can find how much these services are valued at and/or how much these projects/hourly services go for from your past experience?
Samonuso’s comments made me feel like I should give some more info: I am/was a marketing communications manager and lost my job in November. My duties included, but were not limited to logo design, website design, advertising, desktop publishing, marketing strategy, public relations coordination, marketing material distribution, company exposure, packaging, and more. My experience also includes quantitative and qualitative research. So, as you can see, my experience is more than just graphic design. To keep busy, I have been assisting a local business with starting their marketing efforts and realized that I could help out other small businesses with limited budgets while I am looking for a new job. If I get enough interest, I want to be able to offer competitive and fair prices for my services.
Hopefully that clears up any vagueness about what I am looking to offer as a service.
answers:
Marketing is complex and usually utilizes a turn-key approach. A three phase turn key marketing strategy can run a company hundreds of thousands of dollars. I.E. Phase 1 90k, phase 2 40k, phase 3 40k. The strategy is implemented over a period of time.
Sounds like you have marketing confused with graphic design.
A graphic artist can charge anywhere from $130 – $5k for a logo. Design work is typically $65 hr for 4-5 of years professional experience, $75 hr for 6 or more years of professional experience(NSIA). A website (webdesigner, web developer, and SEO) can run well over $5000.
Sounds like you are a lost graphic artist if you don’t know how to price your services. Perhaps you should work for an agency before venturing on your own. Also, if you don’t know by now; the marketing department is usually the first to go in budget cuts. With the economy the way it is now I would say it is a lost cause.
Hope this helps.

The things you listed are all common concerns of small businesses all across North America and a few more would be compliance issues, hiring & termination matters and identity theft; not to mention the failure statistic of starting and maintaining a small business.

Small business advice – who do I ask?

I’ve just watched a brilliant programme this morning called Teen Tycoons which has inspired me to get some advice on pricing, marketing and expansion, but what do I search for? A business consultant? What’s the term? Thanks

You can go and pay a business consultant
But I’d first find a mentor who can guide you and advice you for free.
Here are some places where you can find a mentor:

George asks…
Would you hire a Social Networking Consultant for your small business?
Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace have made quite an impact on the business world in the past few years. Not only are they a way to communicate, they also are tools with which to promote your business. As a small business owner, would you hire a consultant to manage your presence on social networking sites? Responsibilities would include updating daily statuses (menu specials, sales, promotions, greetings, etc.), passing along feedback and questions to the owner, relaying information and answers back, posting pictures, video and advertisements, editing and monitoring the sites’ content and general marketing and public relations for the business.
My target business would be one of 1-4 employees, with no professional IT, PR or marketing person…perhaps a business run by the older generation, someone who doesn’t know computers and doesn’t want to but doesn’t want to miss out on that marketing canvas…someone who might know how to use the tool but doesn’t have time to spend on it…Jessica – I actually am a fan of or like many businesses and franchises on FB, and I purposefully make their posts more available to me on my feed so I can see daily specials, sales, discounts, contests, freebies, etc.!
answers:
No, I wouldn’t hire such a person. I’ve already got someone for my IT needs, and I’m quite competent in using social networks myself. The IT gal is capable of managing my email needs and updates. I find that making updates too frequently (more than once or twice a week, at most) will aggravate and alienate my customers, and I will get less traffic rather than more.
All of my staff are quite computer/internet savvy. I don’t need to hire someone else. Even if I did, I’d hire someone who could do more than just social networking.
I own a couple of retail shops, I’m part owner in a restaurant, and I also own a couple of service businesses.

Your Questions About Local Government Marketing Strategies

Sandy asks…
Why are Private Corporations building detention camps across the United States of America?
The shadowy design firm that was behind the infamous Hardin Montana jail is pushing to build detention camps across America, with the latest proposal centering around a fifty acre, five hundred bed facility in Italy, Texas, part of a program that many Americans fear is based around a plan to intern political dissidents in the event of a national emergency.
Private prison development firm Corplan Corrections, headed up by an individual called James Parkey, is working with underwriter Municipal Capitol Markets Group, along with prison “consultant” Richard Reyes from Innovative Government Strategies, an outfit that works with state and local government, to oversee multiple projects concentrated in different states including Arizona and Texas.
Many will of course say they are for “Illegal” immigrants, but are they?

how could you write this paragraph in your own words?
Urban agriculture (UA) has been promoted over the last couple of years by a large number of local and national governments, urban actors and international agencies, such as UN-HABITAT’s Urban Management Programme, FAO, International Development Research Centre (IDRC- Canada), CGIAR-Urban Harvest and the International Network of Resource Centres on Urban Agriculture and Food Security (RUAF) as a strategy to promote food security and poverty reduction, sustainable resource use and environmental management, social integration and local participatory governance.
Urban agriculture takes place in a multi-sectoral environment, touches on a large number of urban management areas (eg. land use planning, environmental and waste management, economic development, public health, social and community development), and involves a large diversity of systems and related actors (input provision, vegetable production, aquaculture, livestock production, processing and marketing).
answers:
Is the second paragraph yours? Or are they all part of the extract that you have been tasked with to write in your own words?
Unfortunately it would be cheating if anybody did this for you (hopefully you weren’t asking us to do that), but the key point is to summarize – in order to test your understanding. Emphasize the bits that you feel are most important.

Is our Congress smarter than we thought?
Have they instilled confidence in our economy by B.S.ing the world that they have the ability, the knowledge, and the power to fix it?
Have they been secretly cooperating in a strategy to stall for time so that investors will buy up the failed lending companies at bargain prices? Will local governments start to jump in to help when they see the federal Government resisting any quick fix?—Will a little confidence in the market bring it back to fair health?

Chris asks…
If I’m interviewing you for a Sales VP position within a big company, how would you answer to these questions?
I’ll be interviewing several Sales VPs for a position within the company I work for, since I have plenty of experience interviewing IT people but almost none from sales, your help will be really useful, as what am I going to expect by the candidate answers.
1.- This is a company that sells Telecommunications products/services, so you must tell us how are you going to build strategies for selling to the government, corporations and SMBs companies.
2.- How would you create new sales niches local and international?
3.- How good are you with sales people and how do you control them?
4.- Finally, instead of doing “cold calls”, how would you direct your people to find new customers and do the closure for the sales?
The Sales VP responsibilities will be:
Drive and improve all analytics related to sales performance and sales productivity; by region, by product, by market segment, etc.
Serve as “center of excellence” for all key sales and related metrics and analytics, etc.
answers:
1. A. Coordinate collaborative effort between sales, product and marketing teams. B. Organize sales teams to tackle each segment separately (they take different types of teams). C. Work with sales managers to brainstorm/develop objectives and plans.
2. See 1a and 1c. Above. New sales niches absolutely require feedback from the product team.
3. You can’t control sales people. You have to motivate them then hold them accountible for working hard and following a proven sales process. You can’t be afraid to hold onto good ones that run into bad luck and letting go of bad ones.
4. You absolutely have to cold call (see salesguy.org and bdmnews.com for arguments on the importance of cold calling. Salesguy.org has a report that shows cold calling can generate up to 2/3 of a rep’s quota). Cold calling will generate opps and allows a sales team to control its own destiny without relying on marketing, luck, etc. Outside of that, work with marketing team to generate warm calls that sales team follows up on.

James asks…
If a College Educated Indian man is happy to work for $1000, a month, why would outsourcing stop?
Spoke to a guy on the phone from Capital One. He graduated from college (which is inexpensive in India) was articulate and an excellent problem solver, and they have cheap health care. So why would corporations stop outsourcing when they can pollute more in other countries and get cheap educated labor, and the government has health care covered? We can’t fight outsourcing with lower regulations, we need to do it with better education, lower health care costs, and more focus on new innovation and more focus on local economy — Localism. In addition the countries where the outsourcing is taking place are HUGE new markets for international corporations, they already have our business tied up. The USA is old news to the traditional corporate models. We have to look at better strategies to get back to peace and prosperity. Globalist strategies are stripping the world’s resources as they move like locusts to use every resource, and exploit every new person and place, as new markets/buyers, of crap most people don’t need to begin with. Deregulating, and polluting more in the USA will not stop outsourcing it will just pollute the USA more. That’s not the answer.
answers:
A common belief is that corporations outsource for tax reasons. This simply isn’t true. While the top corporate tax rate is 35% no corporation actually pays that amount. Exxon-Mobil and GE for instance pay practically zero taxes.
Another common belief is that labor has been outsourced because of Unions. This also isn’t true. If it was true, ABC Corporation in heavily unionized Michigan could relocate operations to non-unionized South Carolina where the hourly wages and cost of living was also lower. They didn’t do this either.
Multinationals have exported wealth and labor out of the United States because, as you stated, a well trained, educated Indian worker can be paid one amount and an uneducated American would require ten times the amount to do the same job.
The only way to curb this would be to place crushing tariffs on obliterate all tax write offs for corporations who do this. Given that the multinationals control Congress and the Presidency, this isn’t going to happen.
